Asian police officer threatens suit on racism grounds |
The
Metropolitan Police of London is facing its worst ever race crisis
with a top-ranking officer, an Asian Muslim, threatening to sue the
force for racial discrimination. Assistant Commissioner Tarique Ghaffur
has found support from the powerful National Black Police Association
(NBPA) which has decided to back him and asked the government to intervene
in the matter.

A
senior Indian-origin director at the BBC has accused the corporation
of packing the television screen with black and Asian faces while
reserving positions of real power for a white cultural
elite. Shah told an audience of television insiders that black and
Asian people were embarrassed by the tick-box approach
of BBC bosses.

| Vaz
launches probe into Britain's proposed migration system |
Keith
Vaz, chairman of the British parliament's home affairs committee,
Friday launched an inquiry into plans for sweeping changes to the
migration system, saying there are concerns about their impact on
the catering industry. The British government plans to introduce a
points-based system that will give preference to high-earning, English-speaking,
young applicants to live and work in Britain.

discrimination does not exist in Britain |
A
report released by the Hindu Forum of Britain (HFB), 'Caste in the
UK' has found that caste discrimination is not endemic in British
society. The report exposes MPs who have failed to declare in the
Members Register that they sit on the Board of lobbying organisations
on whose behalf they have run campaigns in the House of Commons.

wins judicial review of Arts Council decision |
Watermans
has won its case for a judicial review of the Arts Council decision
to withdraw its £500,000 funding grant. Following the Courts
Notification, the Arts Council has now asked Watermans to withdraw
its legal action in return for a new funding recommendation being
taken to the Arts Councils next London Regional Council Meeting.
The matter is to be now settled out of court.

third of the population is still illiterate and more than 35% of children
dont attend secondary school, according to UNICEF. However,
a revolutionary initiative has been designed to improve the quality
of education in rural India by taking new technology into remote villages.

The
holy ceremony of Bhumi Puja (ground-breaking) ceremony of the first
ever state-funded Hindu School in Britain took place on Saturday 7th
June 2008 and marked the start of building works to be completed in
August 2009 . The Krishna Avanti Primary School is situated in the
London Borough of Harrow which has one of the highest concentration
of Hindus in the country.

Kani, who founded Grange Park Opera in 1998 and created an opera festival
that today rivals Glyndebourne, was last night named 'Asian Woman
of the Year' 2008. She was among nine other winners at the annual
Asian Women of Achievement Awards event where guests included Her
Royal Highness Princess Badiya of Jordan, and actress Elizabeth Hurley
and Awards patron Cherie Blair.
