Bangla' on Friday 26 March 2010 from 7pm until
1.00am presents a stellar line up of live
music, spoken word, dance, literature, exclusive
sets and bespoke collaborations alongside
the launch of Cuts, a new photography exhibition
that will be housed at Rich Mix until the
end of April.

| Ramanavmi,
Saturday 20 March 2010 |
British
Hindus will be celebrating Ramanavmi on Saturday
20 March 2010 at the Bhaktivedanta Manor in
Watford, Hertfordshire. The Ramanavmi (pronounced
Ram Naumi) celebration observes the birth
of Lord Rama. Lord Rama exemplifies high moral
values. He overcame great difficulties which
is depicted in the famous Indian epic The
Ramayana. The Manor will be performing the
Ram Lila (reenactment of the Ramayana) from
4pm onwards.

| Sikhs
celebrate Nagar Kirtan in Sandwell
|
Sikhs
took to the streets of Sandwell in their tens
of thousands to celebrate the 540th birthday
of Guru Nanak Dev Ji, the founder of the Sikh
religion on Sunday 15th November 2009. The
seven Gurdwaras of Sandwell came together
to organise a procession (called a Nagar Kirtan)
which started from the Guru Har Rai Gurdwara,
West Bromwich and finished at the Guru Nanak
Gurdwara, Smethwick.

Diwali lanterns released into the night sky
in bid for world peace
|
After
what was a spectacular Diwali firework display
on Sunday 18th October at Bhaktivedanta Manor
near London, numerous community leaders and
festival revelers released 1000 lanterns into
the sky in a bid for world peace. 15,000 people
attended the Diwali celebrations at the Temple.
The central theme
of Diwali is the victory of good over evil
and light over darkness.

Widows Day 2008 Celebrated |
Former
Primer Minister's wife, Cherie Blair, attended
the International Widows Day Concert in Trafalgar
Square, London on Monday 23 June 2008. The
event was staged by The Loomba Trust - of
which Cherie Blair is a Patron - a UK-based
charity which fights to improve the position
of widows in the developing world. The concert
had an international line up of entertainment.

is not 'the Indians Christmas' |
Diwali
literally means a "Row of Lights."
It is a time a time when Indians all over
the world rejoice. Celebrated on the thirteenth/fourteenth
day in the dark half of Kartik (October -
November), Diwali is the darkest night of
the darkest period, yet it is a celebration
of light! Diwali is heralded as the triumph
of good over evil.
