ANAM WINS COMMONWEALTH 'FIRST BOOK' PRIZE |

Bangladeshi
writer Tahmima Anam was won the Commonwealth Writer's 'First Book'
pize for her debut novel 'A Golden Age'. The overall winners of the
prize were announced on 18 May at the Franschhoek Literary Festival
in South Africa. South African Minister of Arts Z Pallo Jordan awarded
a cheque for £5,000 to Tahmima Anam.

born writer Indra Sinha's novel 'Animal's People' has won the Commonwealth
Writers Prize for the best book in the Europe and Asia region. Sinha's
novel was praised by judges's chair Makarand Paranjape for "its
fiercely original, zesty style, coupled with seriousness of theme
and intent." The winners of regional prizes will form the shortlist
for two prestigious overall prizes to be awarded in May.
