Even
as I sit and contemplate the fiasco that is
the outsourcing of the Indian visa service in
London, I am surprised to read that other South
Asians are mobilising to have a US visa issued
to Gujarati Chief Minister Narendra Modi so
that he can address a New Jersey meet of "gujus"
congregating from around the world. It is not
so much the visa issue that is surprising, it's
the issue of whether there is a conference venue
big enough for all these Gujaratis?!

Supporters
want visa for Modi, US non-committal
Gujarat
Chief Minister Narendra Modi's supporters
want the US to grant him a visa to enable
his participation in a world Gujarati meet,
entitled 'Chaalo Gujarat' even though he
was denied a visa three years ago because
of his alleged role in condoning the anti-Muslim
violence in the state 2002. But the US remained
non-committal about it.
