MAYOR INVITES ASIAN LONDONERS TO A DEBATE

Black & Asian Londoners invited to debate

Ken LivingstoneThe Mayor's London Conference is an opportunity for Black and Asian Londoners to put their views to the Mayor and take part in informed discussion and debate about important issues affecting ethnic minorities in the capital with key policymakers, including politicians, public sector managers and trades unions. Last year's conference attracted over 1,600 Londoners.

The programme will include an opening plenary session on the Case for London led by the Mayor and chaired by broadcaster Sheena MacDonald.

There will be sessions on a wide range of topics, ranging from the Metropolitan Police, to affordable childcare and transport.

Speakers (subject to change) will include:

  • Architect / Television Presenter David Ajdaye
  • Dalton Grant, former Olympic athlete
  • Iqbal Sacranie, General Secretary Muslim Council of Britain
  • Leroy Logan, Black Police Association
  • Robin Wales, Chair ALG and Mayor of Newham
  • Tarique Ghaffur, Assistant Commissioner Metropolitan Police
  • Yvonne Thompson, LDA board member, President of the European Federation of Black Women Business Owners

Subjects being discussed (subject to change) will include:

  • The Case for London (opening plenary, led by the Mayor)
  • Why London needs 35,000 police officers
  • The economic case for affordable child care
  • Making London safe
  • Eat London - a vision for a sustainable food city
  • Winning the Olympics for London
